On 1 October 2026 the Bundesnetzagentur adopted the MiSpeL determination (file 618-25-02) on the market integration of storage and charging points. It settles how electricity drawn from the grid into a battery or EV charger is separated from solar electricity fed into the grid, so operators can optimise grid purchases, feed-in and self-consumption in parallel without losing the EEG payment or the EnFG levy relief on the green share.
Two options exist. The 'Abgrenzungsoption' allocates quarter-hourly metered volumes by formula (§ 19 (3b) EEG, § 21 EnFG) and suits larger storage. The 'Pauschaloption' treats a fixed statutory share of the feed-in from PV systems up to 30 kWp as eligible with minimal metering, but needs EU state-aid approval first. Both options also cover EV charging points, treated like storage. Until the end of September 2027 the grid operator and the metering point operator must agree to the chosen option.
For installers: this is the regulatory basis for grid-charging batteries and bidirectional chargers that buy cheap power on dynamic tariffs while PV surplus still earns the feed-in tariff. Ask manufacturers for MiSpeL-compliant metering concepts and tell customers that the flat-rate route still awaits approval from Brussels.
